A quick note on book pricing!

My Friend Breath is self-published thanks to the distribution services offered by Ingramspark.

During setup we allocated a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) for each format and currency.

Upon submission for distribution, different book retailers around the world chose to list the book, and they now have control over the books pricing.

Post our launch we have noticed prices have varied, particularly on Amazon, where we face a whole other pricing challenge as there are secondhand and third-party sellers who also want to sell our book.

On the sale pages they are labelled as “Other Sellers on Amazon.” If the Amazon algorithm suspects that one of those other sellers is the best retailer for the book, they will win the buy box.

Unfortunately, an algorithm doesn’t know that those other sellers aren’t associated with us. There are a lot of factors that determine who gets the buy box – like volume, price, ratings, and fulfillment method – but eventually, our distributor will be recognized as the primary retailer once again and the price will settle.
