Superhero Training in Mindful Breathing

Do you want to help your child establish a mindful breathing practice, but you’re not sure where to begin?

This first learning guide makes teaching mindful breathing easy for adults and fun for kids!

What is mindful breathing?

Mindful breathing is when you choose to take control of your breath by breathing in an intentional way.

By teaching children how and when to breathe in a mindful way, we help them to develop the important skill of self-regulation.

How does My Friend Breath teach mindful breathing?

By using the read-along script alongside the book, you are given clear instructions on what to say, what to ask and what to do to help a child build a relationship with their breath; get to know it, play with it, and call it by its name, My Friend Breath. It is through establishing this connection with their breath that a child builds the foundation of their mindful breathing practice.

How to use this learning guide

First, you’ll introduce mindful breathing using the read- along script and the companion book My Friend Breath.

Next, you’ll use the online flip-cards and listening activity to check the child’s understanding of the learning focus, mindful breathing, and identify any points that would benefit from being revisited.

Then, it’s time to play! Use the QR Codes or clickable links for quick and easy access to each of the online activities and games to further consolidate learning.

Finally, you can print the coloring activity for engaging offline fun!
